What IS Custom Jewelry Design…and can I afford it?

What exactly is custom jewelry design you ask?  Well, the answer is very simple. It is a side-by-side design process based off your wishes. Instead of coming in to our store and picking out something that is already made (which of course is always fun,too!), we get to indulge in some creative play and make a piece of jewelry for you exactly as you imagine it.

Now of course when I say this process is simple, it really is. This is how it works. The first step is a sit-down appointment that normally takes about 30 minutes to an hour. And it’s fun! This is basically when we interview you to learn all about what you’re thinking. We’ll ask you questions like…

• Do you have an exact idea of what you want? (If you don’t, no worries!  We’ll walk you through how to explore different ideas and ultimately nail down a close idea)
• Do you have any stones that will be provided for the project? (If not, Sierra Moon can supply all the stones necessary. In fact, if you’d like we can even show you a selection and you get to pick out your own!)
• Do you have a timeline? (Sometimes those marriage proposals can put us a little under the gun, but we can handle it!)
• Do you have a specific budget in mind? (No matter what the budget we are always able to find a solution. In fact, this is probably the number one idea people have about custom designed jewelry. We are able to design for any budget. There are many ways to get creative.)

Before you leave the shop we will be able to give you a ballpark estimate of what the project will cost.  It is at this point that we take a $300 non-refundable deposit. This allows us to provide advanced sketches of the project, prepare your stone selection, or even begin the process of a CAD (computer-assisted design) rendering based off our discussion. Once stones have been selected and designs confirmed, we are looking at 3-4 weeks until completion.  And also, we will take a half down deposit at this point.  During this time period, the jewelry piece is cast in your chosen metal and then carefully finished, along with the stones being set by one of our goldsmiths.  And voila!  You’re one-of-a-kind piece is all yours!
